The Wonderful World of Podcast Listening

If you aren’t super familiar with podcasts (and a lot of artists told me they aren’t), I think you’ll find them an invaluable studio companion.

What are Podcasts?

They’re like radio shows but on demand. Podcasts can be news reports, talks, interviews, or stories, true or fictional. They can be structured like variety shows, intimate chats, or full episodic dramas. They can be comprised of everything from one person talking to an entire cast immersed in sound effects and music.

Where do I find Podcasts?

Podcasts are not unlike online videos. They can be streamed from websites, or played through apps on your phone or tablet. You might even be able to listen to them on your television if you have a smart TV offering a podcast player.

How can I get started Listening to Podcasts?

You can start with The Sage Arts by going to this web page or by clicking one of the services on this page.

  • If on a computer, click on the website or any service then on new page, look for the list of episodes, pick one of interest, and click on the “play” button which is sometimes just an arrow button.
  • If on an iPhone or iPad click this services link and choose APPLE PODCASTS. This is your phone’s default player and is the most popular podcast app in the world, probably because it is so easy to navigate.
  • If your phone is Android, click this services link and choose GOOGLE PODCASTS, the Android default player. It’s not the most intuitive app though. SPOTIFY seems to be preferred so if you have that installed, you could start there, or install it through the Google Play store.
How do I Search & Save Podcasts?

Once you’ve listened to an episode or two of my podcast, you’ll probably be curious about what other podcasts are now at your fingertips.

  • Start by saving my podcast! Just click the “Follow” or “Subscribe” button (sometimes it’s just a plus sign in a circle at the top) and your player will keep track of new episodes of The Sage Arts for you.
  • Look for the “Search” function right there on the page you’re playing my podcast from and type any old keyword you like to see what comes up. Sample shows and if you like them, “Follow” them as well.
  • Followed shows are put in a “Library” which you should be able to get to from any main page. If you don’t see it, just go back (usually tap in the upper left corner).

And that’s it. You’re on your way to having access to millions of podcasts of all types to keep your mind engaged and intrigued while you work in the studio, or wherever else you need some mental stimulus.
